Editorial Guidelines

Articles on Loserville should:

Feature an aspect of quirky pop culture, ideally featuring free and cheap things to do, new things you’ve discovered or like, or a rant about something in particular

Involve this sort of theme: cheap, alternative pop culture, bands, music, lifestyle, fashions, retro, tacky things, nice undiscovered things, underground yet quirky heroes

Be short, punchy, almost viral (like Facebook) length, such as one band, one place, or a short round up of thoughts

Be on one specific subject or theme

Have a title which is memorable, catchy and inviting as well as featuring a keyword which describes the article

Be full of keywords which describe the article overall

Should use formatting to have at least 3 big headings (use Heading 1 in the WordPress formatting toolbar) to break up the text

Have a good quality, appealing picture as it’s first picture as this is used for the thumbnail on the home page

Packed with photos preferably at the same width as the page (350 pixels) or as a thumbnail (150 pixels) (please note posts can be just photos with a caption)

No longer than 500 words, if you wish to do an extended article break it up into a column which can be serialized

Introduced with a section which sets up the piece and acts as a teaser to get people to read in the excerpt and search engine description box

Able to fit into one of the following sections

Stick to deadlines set by the editor

 

Section Descriptions:

Loser List: The weekly roundup of new stuff, things to do etc. which Rupert has edited from various contributors. To add stuff to this section please email me with your idea for an addition to the Loser List at least 7 days before the one you wish it to appear in.

Kooks and Quirks: Short individual articles which focus on one particular product, gig, place, fashion etc. this can include previews of stuff to come as well as reviews of stuff that has already happened.

Life & Shit: Is Loserville’s guide to life, including guides to certain life things like making porn or getting a job in the salad industry. Should include real-life insights, such as credit crunch, news, current life trends.

Random: is primarily interesting web links and streaming video like youtube, which you should write a short description of and include an image to highlight what the video/article is about.

Features & ROTOFOTO: Loserville features are an in depth insight into something, like a trip or outing for example, or an investigation into something in which you have your own photos. ROTOFOTO is just photo features, either one photo with a caption, or lots of big images with captions or a gallery of small thumbnails with a general description above.
