Hurrah our favourite super jumble is back tomorrow Going for a Song – come and have a browse! Expect live musical treats, haggling a go go, pretty dresses, vintage delights, cake & lovely drinkies courtesy of the bar! Plus we’ll be there hawking our wares so come and say hello!

Of course, at the Amersham, we demand live entertainment! So spread the word amongst budding musicians or keep it simple, bring a yukulele / trombone / sax and spill us some riffs.

Fuck Shoreditch! Skanky saarf (south) east London is where it’s at for emerging nonwank art, super bargain shopping and lovely drinkies…This weekend is perfect to visit Deptford, as it’s the opening weekend of Deptford X, Going for a Song – Vintage Jumble & Open Mic and the last day of the beautiful exhibition at a new concept gallery & performance space run by former prisoners called Art Saves Lives.

Art

1. Deptford X – go on have a wander! Check out the Deptford X google map below for all the exhibition listings in galleries from train carriages, to railway arches to rubbish lorries.
2. Arthouse@Hot Tap Theatre (20-32 Goodwood Road, New Cross, London SE14 6LB, 12-7pm, Free Entry)- Our top art tip in Deptford this year is to discover the last day of the exhibition at the Hot Tap Theatre by former prisoners and patients of Betham Hospital as well as works by 30 local artists including unique pieces by Gavin Turk, Adam Fuss and Duggie Fields.
3. Mark Titchner is the headline artist of Deptford X and we’re we stunned by his amazing piece ‘We are everywhere’ as we were on the DLR back to Lewisham right on a large scaffolding clad building opposite Deptford Bridge Station platform.

Shopping

1. Going for a Song – Vintage Jumble Sale & Open Mic (Saturday 12-6pm at the Amersham Arms, New Cross – 2 mins from Deptford)  - super cheap lovely vintage, free cake, yummy food and open mic choons. And we run it so it’s bound to be good!
2. Deptford Market with it’s eccentric selection of meat, exercise bikes, piles of  vintage clothes and other gorgeous cheap junk! We love it…and Saturday is the best day to go!
3. Rag n Bone (Deptford High Street) is a flagship shop run by Chris Carey, the father of vintage in South London, whose massive warehouses of one-off beauties sourced in part from the cow decorated street recycling banks outside Goldsmiths Uni.
4. NX Boutique (1a Clifton Rise, London SE8 4RT) – Wkd screen-printed t-shirts including I heart Brockley and others from top emerging street designers.

Drinkies & YumYums

1. The Deptford Project - is a cafe in a train carriage – strange but true. Lovely food, cake and window seats. They’re showing Withnail & I on Saturday night in their carpark but we think it’s sold out. Great place for some grub away from the madness of the market.
2. The Albany – Sip a cold can of Red Stripe in a arty bubble away from the crowds and download porn on their superb free wifi connection. This is where the local constabulary and traffic wardens hide all day.
3. Deptford Market – Jolof Rice, nuff said.
