ScipMylo Comedy Festival @ The Comedy Café/Shoreditch Town Hall/Richmix/Hackney Empire | 8-17 September |  Various Times | £Various

New comedy festival in Shoreditch including some top name comedians and oddball treats. Our highlights include: Paul Daniels (16th September), Stephen K Amos, Miss Behave (with loads of top guests inc. Jonny Woo and Le Gateau Chocolat), Josie Lawrence and Sean Hughes. Looks a right laugh.

Grin & Bare It @Shoreditch Town Hall | 14-17 September | 20:00-22:00 | £Free

The hottest young stand-ups, visual artists, and experimental performers on the scene fused into a perfectly spun free festival. It’s not quite as straight-forward as that though… YOU have to find them and they might want to PLAY with you. Expect Karaoke Clowns, Bedroom Escapades, Slow Dancing, Nipple Flashing and six of the best up and coming stand-ups every night including our musical friends Pistol & Jack.

La Cucina Futurista @ Vogue Fabrics | 15-24 September | 20:00 | £40

This pop-up restaurant has a beautiful concept derived from the Futurist Artist Marinetti’s ‘Futurist Cookbook’. Sound Tracks Festival @  Cafe Oto/Concrete/Amersham Arms/Dalston Eastern Curve Garden/New Cross Inn | 17 September | From 19:00 | £12.50

‘North Londoners! Overcome your bewilderment of the South! South Londoners! It’s really not so bad in the North!’. This new multi-site (Dalston to New Cross), very reasonably priced music festival taking place in some of our favourite venues along the great Overground line including Amersham Arms in New Cross and Cafe Oto in Dalston. The most amazing thing about the festival is their ‘Travelling Stage’ – a stage actually on the Overground train itself. The line up is eclectic, innovative and edgy featuring future greats such as Marina Gasolina, Tigercats, Fantastic Mr Fox and many more on trains and in venues.

The Playboy of the Western World @ The Old Vic | 17 September Onwards | 19:30; Wed & Sat Matinees 14:30 | £10-49.50

Opening the new season at The Old Vic, John Crowley directs J M Synge’s irreverent comic masterpiece starring our number one Misfit, Robert Sheehan (E4’s Misfits). This savagely funny Irish classic was first produced in 1907 and was met with rioting and controversy when it premiered, sending shock waves across the dramatic world.

Mysterious Skin  @ The Drill Hall | 18-20 September | Various Times | £12

Brilliantly poignant and gripping gay contemporary classic.  Featuring Nicole Faraday, best known for her role as Snowball Merriman in Bad Girls, and Harry Bradshaw, who was most recently seen in Hollyoaks.

Thundercub at Shinky Shonky @ Ku Bar | 21 September | From 22:00 | £Free

Thundercub, a bearded musical prodigy supports Kathryn Ellis at the home of offbeat cabaret and late night dancing spot – Shinky Shonky. Presided over by Boogaloo Stu the night is sure to melt your funny bone and also catch a glimpse of Thundercub, a rather beautiful new cabaret icon.

Swarovski Treasure Hunt | 24 September | All Day | £Free

Swarovski (famed for crystals) have moved into cinema and is celebrating the creation of their Discover Your Light short film directed by Bruno Avellian by having an amazing treasure hunt. They have teamed up with a US games specialist to design and host a large-scale citywide treasure hunt which will be undertaken by 500 teams of 2 players. By downloading the app for free, either in Apple’s app store or Google’s android market, players will be guided around a series of locations to complete challenges and earn points. The top score will win a trip of a lifetime to Paris, Barcelona, Florence or Istanbul which will be presented, along with a whole host of other prizes, at Lawrence Hall, Royal Horticultural Halls while the guests listen to DJ sets from the likes of the Filthy Dukes. A panel of culture vultures., decided by Dazed  and Confused will choose their most-loved and best-hidden gems of the city to become one of the treasure hunt’s 40 locations. Confirmed names Mark Titchner (Turner Prize nominee) Guerilla Science and Joe Dunthorne (writer, Submarine).

Decade @ Commodity Quay, St Katharine Docks | All September (until October 15th) | 19:30 + matinees | £35  

 Decade is the new site specific show about 9/11 from pioneering Rupert Goold’s Headlong Theatre who brought Enron to the West End. The show is taking place at St Katherine’s Docks and promises to be epic in scale and content.

Ignite 2011 @ Royal Opera House | 2-4 September | Noon onwards | Free – £15

Having very much enjoyed this free festival sponsored by a rather massive bank for the last two years, we were excited to see that Ignite has not lost its penchant for the weird and wonderful. Highlights for us include Mike Figgis’ films being shown and a super installation by one of our favourite fashion/art photographers Guy Bourdin.

La Haine Screening @ Passing Clouds | 4 September | 19:00 – 21:00 | Free

Free screening of La Haine, the seminal gang violence film starring Matthieu Kassovitz at the uberfun and slightly underground Passing Clouds art club.

Thames Festival | 10 & 11 September | Free 

Oh no! Boris has been at the Vino again, here’s the result – The Thames Festival 2011 on the Southbank (as featured in our little Festivals guide a while back). Our top picks include: The Night Carnival & Firework Finale on Sunday - an illuminated procession best seen from Victoria Embankment (they say); New European Village all weekend - which celebrates culture in Central and Eastern Europe; & Feast on the Bridge - food filled fun on Sunday

Watch This Space Festival @ The National Theatre | Until 24 September | Free

We have covered this festival to death now (we got excited about it here) but we still love it and it continues until the 24th September. We recommend: Page Blanche - an insane mix of visual art, live music and theatre; and also Just Another Boyband – a juggling tribute to the boybands we’ve known and loved.

The Watch This Space Festival (featured in our fab guide to free festivals) returns for 2011 outside the National Theatre, and there are a number of diverse themes throughout the run: I’m afraid we’re too late already to catch the ‘I, Culture’ Polish Weekend, but we’re pretty excited to say that right now, it’s Circus Space Week. Ooft, we love a bit of circus. Still to come, Gandini Juggling Week, Dance Week, and the Thames Festival Weekend amongst others.

Short shorts feeling a little tighter than usual? Ease yourself back into last year’s borderline-slutty summer outfits with the help of these More London Get Fit For Free! classes at The Scoop, brought to you by fitness experts from 37°.

Every Wednesday until August 31st, at 7:30am, don your comedy sweatbands and join in the fun – there are three classes, each running for about a month: Boot Camp, Body Attack, and Xtreme Challenge.

They say (of Boot Camp) : “This is a no-nonsense total body-conditioning workout, which will strengthen and reshape all your body. Big bulky muscles you won’t get but work hard enough and a sleek, lean, defined body will be your reward. Using a variety of small equipment such as resistance bands, light hand weights and steps, this class is choreography free. So if your goal is to look good naked you’d be crazy not to join in! Suitable for all fitness levels and abilities

For your first class please turn up 10 minutes before as you will have to register and complete a Par-q form.  Classes are limited in size; therefore it will be run on a first come first served basis.”

Make your own DIY Pop Hit at…POP MAGIC! | Friday 18th March | 7.30pm | Chisenhale Dance Space 

Join Boogaloo Stu for an evening of musical alchemy, as his Pop Magic show explodes the myths behind writing a pop hit; giving the audience a unique opportunity to collectively write, produce and release a smash-hit pop single (and make a pop video for it too) in just 1 hour.

ONE HOUR??? What the hell? Are you crazy, man? Can it be done? God only knows. But join me for this musical masterclass to find out!

Audience members pick out a song genre from the lucky dip, and then assemble the music track, lyrics and melodies. Volunteers are invited to add vocals, and some will also be whisked aside by the wonderful Sparklemotion to learn a flashmob dance routine for the accompanying pop video.

Along the way, Stu reveals the modest but glittering highs and barrel-scraping lows of his own pop trajectory; and also how, in his teenage years, pop music shaped his future career and forged his own desire to perform.

The finished video is instantly uploaded to all the social networks – for all to see, hear and share, shortly after the video wraps.

Loserville is a bit late to the party on this one, but we just discovered indiemoviesonline.com, a website where you can watch a really good selection of independent films FOR FREE!

There’s plenty to chose from (check out the list here), but Loserville particularly recommends Unmade Beds, a really great film from director Alexis Dos Santos. Check out the trailer:

Simple ways to get free tickets in London, capital of great expense!

1. If you’re under 26 try Arts Council’s A Night Less Ordinary, contact the venues far in advance though to find out when their free tickets are released. All the major subsidised venues such as Roundhouse, BAC and others are on there.

2. Same again but Barbican and National Theatre have their own free-to-join schemes for under 26 year olds which are ace as they email you when tickets are available and you can get em for some super stuff. Their follow up tickets for a fiver are ace too!

3. Join What’s On Stage’s theatre club for free theatre tickets to the best west end shows all year round. Membership can be pricey but it’s worth it!

4. Time Out’s offers page is amazing for free tickets, add it to your bookmarks and get free tickets to amazing gigs, shows and events. It is updated roughly every Tuesday to coincide with the publication of the magazine…SO GOOD!

5. Evening Standard’s offers and competitions are unbeatable, always good tickets for variety of events.

6. Our favourite weekly mailout Run-Riot has super free tickets every week for the most offbeat and cool events around.
