Stuff vs Loserville Cool-off! (Part 1)
Loserville whiled away the morning commute today by muckying its paws with London’s cheapest toilet paper, The Metro. We can’t make excuses. It just happened. But one story caught our eye – The 2011 Cool List, from gadget magazine Stuff.
Which got us on to thinking – would our Loserific fans agree with this so-called Cool List?
What better way to spend a Thursday morning then, than to put together a Stuff vs Loserville Cool-off! Here’s PART 1:
********
Stuff say: Fujifilm X100
“As cool as daddy giving you the keys to his T-Bird”

Loserville says: Leica C-Lux 3
Phwoar. Sexy is cool right? Well this camera is sexy. So it’s cool. See the logic. Stuff say that their camera looks like a Leica. Well, ours is a Leica. So there!
********
Stuff say: TDK 2 Speaker Boombox
“As cool as a fridge full of Grand-master Flash’s trainers”
Loserville says: Extra Smooth American Tourister BoomCase
Made to order BoomCases – that’s a boombox made from a suitcase – from the mysterious Mr Simo. We heart the Extra Smooth – rock up to a boozy picnic with one of these, and that fridge full of Grand-master Flash’s trainers can jog on.
********
Stuff say: Nike+ SportWatch GPS
“As cool as a post-marathon rubdown with a bucket of dry ice”
Loserville says: Paper Watch – Design Your Own
Infinitely cooler than some toxic-looking moulded plastic – get out the crayons, and go crazy designing your own watches. We think it would be ace to send personalised watches as party invitations, but then we’re pretty crazy like that.
********
Stuff say: Samsung D8000
“As cool as a penguin with a backpack full of choc ices”
Loserville says: Keracolor 26″ Spere TV
Ok, look, you might not be able to find one of these in your local Curry’s, but big fat widescreens are so dull. Dare to be different, and far cooler, and get your hands on one of these über snazzy vintage sphere tv’s – far more interesting to look at than anything you’ll actually find on TV at the moment…
********
Stuff say: Philips Fidelio SoundSphere
“As cool as the windswept ice-moons of K’in Kauld” (huh?)
Loserville says: Geneva Sound System Model S DAB
We all need more red in our lives. All this black and aluminium tech is making Loserville feel like we’re living in monochrome. There’s nothing cooler than standing out from the crowd, and shouting “HEY, LOOK, I’VE GOT A BIG RED BOX THINGY IN THE CORNER OF MY ROOM”. We think.
********
Stuff say: Sagemcom Sixty
“As cool as Harry Palmer glasses in Hoxton”
Loserville says: Scandiphone
This scandalously simple design classic is the definition of tele-cool. The fact that it looks a bit like something you might buy from Prowler only adds to it’s charm.
********
Stuff say: Hulger Plumen 001
“As cool as the Northern Lights”
Loserville says: The Lee Sang Gin Bookrest Lamp
We can’t promise that this cool lamp is saving the planet (if you want green lighting, Loserville suggests candles), but it is effortlessly cool. Just pop your (noticeably un-thumbed) copy of ‘À l’ombre des jeunes filles en fleurs’ on top, and relax with a G&T in one hand and a Harry Potter of your choice in the other.
********
Stuff say: Apple MacBook Air
“As cool as flying First Class in Apple’s secret aluminium jet”
Loserville says: Commodore 64
We haven’t gone mad – we’re not saying you should call the parents and ask them to dust down the old magic-box that’s been gathering dust in the attic for 20 years. Commodore USA have released an updated C64 – same classic style, running modern PC software. Um, yes please. Also, any chance of a Dizzy egg revival?
********
Stuff say: Peugeot EX1
“As cool as Mr Freeze’s ice gun”
Loserville says: Reliant Robin
How can 4 wheels be cool? It’s so boring. Now, three wheels, that’s exciting. We can’t be the only one’s who feel a warm glow inside whenever we see a Reliant Robin. Sadly, this sight is all to rare. Wouldn’t it be cool to see the streets of Britain awash with Robin’s? We think so.
