Need a Cultural Holiday? LOOK UP!
Recently I have been sent several emails from Rupert (the creator of Loserville) begging for more ‘heterosexual writers’ – “Loserville has become too camp and I did not mean it to”, well here I am to the rescue again.
Two Questions: My first is: “What is more heterosexual than Architecture?” – well maybe many things including ogling women rather then buildings, but for this article there is nothing more HETEROSEXUAL than BUILDINGS! So this is my topic.
My second question is: “Do you ever grow tired of England and miss the beauty of continental Europe?” The Nordic countries have clean, cobbled streets with architecture so well looked after it feels they were built yesterday and the Mediterranean, though their buildings are unpreserved, falling apart and tatty, have some stunners!
Well here is a little Double Dip Recession Tip for you: There is no need to to book your fourteen pound return ticket to Stockholm, nor your twelve pound coach to Paris. Instead book your three pound advanced Southern Rail ticket to any city in the UK: England has more fascinating building than any other country in my opinion and some of them are occupied by the likes of Argos, Boots, NatWest and even McDonalds though the signs often detract us from looking above their logos.
Just take a look at the gallery below; England houses Classical beauties, Dutch design and huge Castles all in its high streets and even our council estates are a huge testament to brave architecture – I think I prefer my Grandma’s old estate in Cranleigh to the Arc de Triomphe.
Yes I grow sick of England sometimes and long for foreign styles, yes our Landlords often take out any bit of charm a building had inside and yes we do not preserve the outside of our buildings as well as we should but boy are we not brave in popping ultra modern sky scrapers, modernist high rises and classic imperial high street architecture in sequence…
Most of these pictures are from my home town, Chichester, proving you do not have to go far to find that even McDonalds can be beautiful and British high rises the most individual!

Your article is like totally gay!
